I am curious about Forum Member experience. Which Modern Era Tinplate do you prefer and why. I was thinking about MTH (early "garage production") versus MTH production versus Lionel Corporation versus Lionel Prewar Celebration Series. What about traditional versus contemporary? Are modern era traditional parts interchangeable with actual prewar parts? I am interested in operating more than collecting.

Thanks!

I prefer the contemporary versions for operating. They seem to run smoother and slower than the original versions.

As far as I know, MTH made all of the main stream repops, whether they have Lionel names on them or not.

I'm not talking about the small entrepreneur brands, like McKCoy, Richart and the like.

rdg fan,

Good luck finding any MTH,"garage production" pieces now. You might hit it lucky on eBay. You're the only one who knows what you want out of your trains. It might be wise to buy yourself one of the newer RTR Tinplate Sets. Be it Lionel or MTH, they are the same.

Please do not interchange parts between vintage pieces and a modern look-a-like. Quite a few parts do interchange because they are reproductions.

I kept my answer simple and addressed the high points of your inquiry. Most of it seemed vague and muddled.

God Bless,

"Pappy"
