I need some input regarding the MTH Commander, specifically.....

-Will it run analog O gauge engines such as older Lionel?

-Will it run MTH Proto 1 and Proto 2 engines? (The MTH website refers to Proto 3 and also HO.....)

-At this price level, should I just buy a DCS system? (I am looking at the Commander and the 100W power supply for a layout for the grandkids. I think that the buttons are very appealing to younger users.)

-Any reported problems or issues?

Te DCS Commander has always been intended to be an HO control system. It is limited to a single TIU channel of maximum 6 amps draw, has a reduced set of DCS feature, and it outputs only DC voltage.

Further, it is incapable of working with the DCS WiFi App.

I would recommend staying away from it as a mainstream O gauge product.

Gentleman, are you talking about the " MTH DCS Remote Commander 50-1033 " ? I was planning on buying one and using the power pack from my MTH Z-1000. Is this possible and will it work with my PS-2 engine.  I am new to command control and appreciate all the advice I can get...

2 different things.

The DCSRC (50-1033) will operate PS2 engines, the engine (if ever run under the regular DCS system) must be set to "Factory Reset" for the DCSRC to see the engine.

The DCS Commander is 50-1028, a kinda squarish boxy thing.

Thanks Bob! The names are almost the same so I was confused. Two quick questions. Can I use the "brick" from my MTH  Z1000?  And lastly I know it will control my PS2 engine but can it ALSO  control conventional ( My Williams ) engines by remotely raising and lowering track voltage? I appreciate any advice....

The DCSRC cannot control conventional engines, only PS2 and PS3.

You can use the Z1000 brick, although I don't recall if you can also leave the controller attached (that would enable you to control conventional engines but not both at the same time).

The DCSRC can be set up in "Passive Mode".  Connect the brick directly to the track and the DCSRC receiver output to the track (1 wire).  You'll be able to run your PS2/3 engines with the handheld remote.

I haven't used mine in probably 4 years (has it been that long!?!?!?) so hopefully the real gurus will chime in in case I've made an error.  I'd be curious about using the Z1000 controller as well if someone cares to enlighten us.
