I have an MTH PS-1 Genesis that the rear coupler gave out.  The metal surrounding the coil looks like it has the zinc pest casting impurity like my Amfleet couplers had before replacing them.  Has anyone had this problem with proto-couplers?  How much is a replacement PS-1 rear coupler for a Genesis and is it easy to replace?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Replacing the proto-coupler isn't really hard. You'll have to drop the truck from the motor to remove the pilot. Then you can get to the "T-Bar" that centers the coupler when you remove the "E-clip" from the bottom that holds the coupler in place. All you need to do is cut the wires and re-connect the wires from the replacement.

E-mail me off-list. I may have one lying around in my parts box.
