Hi guys,
I purchased a brand new MTH PS3 SD70ACE and out of the box it will not run in reverse.
I'm using DCS, when I select the "Dir" button the light changes driection but the engine still moves forward only. Also, the "Click" you normally hear when you change the direction on the engine is not heard. Everything else on the engine works as it is supposed to.
I've done a "Feature Reset" a "Factory Reset" gone into "DIR Control" to ensure the engine was set to "F/R". No matter how many times I try these the engine only moves in the forward direction.
Additionlly I've tried to unlock it by using conventional mode and performing the below from the manual.
Locking Locomotive Into A Direction.
You can lock your engine into a direction (forward, neutral, or reverse) so that it will not change directions. To do this, put the engine into the direction you want (or into neutral to lock it into neutral), run it at a very slow crawl (as slowly as it will move without halting), and quickly but firmly tap the Horn button once followed by three quick taps of the Bell button, allowing approximately ½ second to lapse between each quick button press. Two horn blasts will indicate that the engine has made the change. The engine will not change direction (including going into neutral) until you repeat the 1 horn, 3 bells code to return the engine to its normal condition, even if the engine is kept without power for extended periods of time.
I've gotten it to work (it sounds the horn twice, indicating the that the engine has made the change), but it still will only run in reverse in both DCS and Conventional.
I purchased from a forum sponser and they have been very responsive in trying to get this corrected. They suggested that I try: Starting it up in conventional and then pull the power down to 8 volts. Hold down the whistle button and drop the power to zero. If I hear a single bell, it's unlocked. If I hear a single whistle, it's now locked and I need to do it again to unlock it.
I could not get that to work. I've never had this happen before.
Any ideas or something I might be missing before I send it back for repair?
Thanks!
