I’ve gotten some very good info from everyone and finally started my ceiling layout.  I wanted to be able to run two trains and also be able to run the larger articulated steamers so one loop will be O72 and the outside (upper) loop will be O81.  I have the track down to test the lower loop but won’t be able to lay the upper track until the shelf is permanently mounted.  Now that I’ve tested it and know it works I get to take it all down and sand/finish everything.

As always any feedback is appreciated.

Looks great - 2 things

1- It looks like you’ll be going point to point, unless you move the guns. Why not full loops?

2- Can’t wait to see the sight lines on the upper loop.

Thanks.  I thought I had some pictures after I punched through the wall...  I have a video above but here's what it looks like going into and out of the closet.

I plan on creating some stone tunnel work on the left side and wood on the right side to match the barn wood wall.

The invisible shelf brackets are a fine solution to shelf layouts.  True craftsmanship.

Thanks Dan.  I really wanted a very clean look and the floating shelf brackets work great.  I will reinforce the entire shelf with a strip of wood on top of the shelf secured to the studs and then to the shelf with pocket screws.
