I happened to recieve the Burlington Passenger Set, 3-4196-1, for ****. I love it. Very nice running with DCS. I managed to locate the extra cars that go with it.

The engine that comes is just the powered A unit. But the unit has a plug in the rear suggesting that some other product is to be plugged into it. Does anyone know what product MTH has in mind?

The similar Santa Fe set has an available dummy F-3 B and A unit, but not the Burlington. But I wouldn't think they would use a plug, since they're dummys. Maybe it's just the reverse lights.

Why won't MTH make a dummy A or B unit for my Burlington? I need them.

That set is from the 2008 catalog, I would have thought that MTH would have followed up with dummies for it by now. Maybe sales of it were low. As to the plug on that set it would be just for the lights on a rear A unit so that it shows correct when reversed. The B unit plug would be just a pass through. I'd check on eBay for reasonable B and unpowered A units and paint them yourself to match, or have someone do it professionally. Looks like a simple enough paint scheme.
I have that same engine from the B&O Freight RTR set that came out circa 2004. The engine has approx. 4,000 scale miles and have not had any problems with it except the pickup rollers wearing out and falling apart. That was the only problem and the engine is regularly run hard at home and occasionally at National Capital Tracker displays. Great little engine.

Dummy units were produced for my engine but I don't have them. I do have a Williams Scale GP9 dummy in B&O livery that I couple to it. While it is scale, there is no glaring difference in size other than length. I think they look very good together and match in height, width and overall size except the F is about 2 inches shorter. A nice pair.
