Hello everyone! i was asked in another thread to post some pictures of my new 5 x10 layout. I didn't want to hi-jack someone else's thread so i thought I would start a new one. The layout is actually slightly longer and wider than 5x 10. I did this but allowing some overhang with the layer of homosote on top of the 3/4 inch birch wood plywood layer. The support structure is Mainne, which I highly recommend.

The two separate loops consist of aa simple O-48 outer loop with a more complex O-36 Figure eight with a closed off oval and a passing siding on one side. The inner loop also has three short dead end sidings. Accessories include several Prewar buildings, the stamped metal Lionel factory, the second versions of Lionel's haunted house and Lionel Nuclear Reactor. The layout also includes a UFO over head, aliens capturing a moose and a hunter stalked by Bigfoot. Enjoy!

Intriguing layout. Just when you think it's Hi-Rail...it's not. Just when you think it's just toys...it's not. I especially like the Pre-War buildings, many of which were more realistic-looking than we realize, once they are put in a Hi-Rail or Hi-Rail-ish environment. I have a couple.

Good size, too - you can reach everything.

Very interesting observations! I never thought about my layout that way... but it works. I think it reflects my own flexibility and playful ambivalence to layout building. If its fun, it works!

A fun and interesting track plan as an overall layout with a mixture of accessories that span the many ages of Lionels evolution. Is this just a conventional or one of the other operating choices? I’m sure you will have many hours of operating fun.

I just use Lionel's Universal Remote and conventional power for my non Legacy or Lionchief locomotives. It bogles my mind to think I am running state of the art 2021 Lionel Legacy locomotives with a 65 year old KW.  Hmm.. maybe I shouldn't. I am thinking of upgrading to a Lionel ZW-L.  Sentimentality though, is holding me back from making the change. The KW was used by my mother's brothers before it was passed down to me.

Anyone use a Lionel ZW-L?

Is the T-Rex a Schleich figure? I always wanted to do a Jurassic Park kind of thing but those things are expensive when you need a dozen or so dinosaurs to pull it off and the Walmart ones are shall we say a tad unrealistic. Cool looking layout especially the tin buildings.

Hi Jerry. It says he is from the “Carnegie Safari Limited. 1988”

He’s been around for a while and I think we got him from the local bank when my daughter opened her first checking account.

He’s been a layout tradition since then!

Yes, I have the ZW-L and love it.  Very easy to program and operate with my CAB1-L.  I also have a 5x10 layout with a carnival theme.  I’m just in the process of connecting the Lemax amusement rides.

Thank you for sharing...really  nice job... the Fast Track looks great...I have Atlas O and if I ever build another layout in my lifetime I would use Fast Track....

Thank you! I have been an early adapter of Fastrack since it came out. In fact, I believe I had the first, or one of the first, Fastrack layouts featured in a major train magazine. In the early 2000s

That’s good to hear! Have you used the ZW-L to run postwar locomotives?

No, I have all modern engines.  You will need command to control the speed steps to run postwar engines smoothly.

I’m in the process of detailing my layout and looking for ideas for the mid way.  I’m looking for sources for walking and standing people figures and have ordered a custom station that will fit into the theme.

I’m still trying to figure out powering the amusements how to control the sound and hide the controllers.

I’ve added a couple of photos and will update them when I make some progress.7B69A42B-1CE5-4054-B901-E87BD504E2234126A986-0FE2-473B-BC7D-D04C401101E2

Nicely done. I’m really envious of these layouts.
