Hi gang,

I just joined. As a kid I was an HO guy. Loved and still have some of them. My son has Lionel Fastrack gear that we setup on the floor. Someday we may do a layout but not now. He REALLY wants a turntable and I want to get him one for Christmas. I need advice on what turntable to get and control equipment.

Lionel does not sell a Fastrack turntable. I found an Atlas which can be adapted. Can it work with it all on the floor?

I'm on totally unknown ground here so any advice you have would be most appreciated!!!

Actually for a Floor layout Atlas is about the only one you can use.  The entire turntable is designed to sit on top of the platform so it could sit on top of a floor.  Most higher end tables have to be mounted from underneath (search for Millhouse Studios on the web)the platform to make it level with the track because a real turntable has a pit.  Don't think you want a hole in your floor haha.  Atlas has put the motor and gearing in the little shed on the one side.  Although its one of the cheapest and least realistic ones out there I have heard its pretty good as far as operation from some posts on here.  So probably would be you best choice for a floor layout.  Not sure about carpet as you have to keep the track level with the turntable track.  You may have to cut a piece of thin plywood or something so you can screw it down and screw down the ends of the tracks coming up to it.
