Need help with a reset PS2

I would check the battery here, and replace it. Since it’s new/old stock it’s been sitting for quite some time. Since it was released in 2008, you’re looking at a battery that is 17 years old. Good luck and please report back-

I have a BCR that I will try tomorrow and let you know. When it was working it would stay alive for about 10 seconds after power was off and even when it was on my programing track  in Conventional mode.

I found a few minutes tonight and replaced the battery with a BCR and no difference. I made sure the harness was in place and seated.

If the sound drops immediately after killing power and you've allowed the BCR at least several minutes to charge with power on, the charging circuit on the board probably has a problem.

The sound stays on after the power is off until the shut down sound sequence is complet. It did that before I changed the battery and it is that way with the BCR too.

If you never heard the whistle in conventional mode, I doubt the reset procedure worked.

What transformer are you using to do the conventional reset?

Do you have another locomotive to test with that transformer and make sure your whistle button is working correctly?

I thought the same thing so I put a different engine with PS2 3v on the track and it worked just fine.

I have another board but it is out of a diesel, could I just replace it and down load the sound files?

Yep, for a 3V PS/2 board you should be able to just swap the board and load the chain files.

I know where to get sound files but all I can fine is chain files for PS 3/2 stacker boards. Can I load them the same way as sound files,and witch one do i do first?

PS/2 boards of any voltage don't have chain files.  The PS3/2 board is a PS/3 board with an interface board on top to mimic a PS/2 board.

Assuming you meant load the sound files. Not chain files.

I had a extra board so I just programed with the sound files from MTH. Now we are back to running. The only thing I don't like is after programming it kept all of the info. from the old engine (name,miles,hours) no big deal on name I changed that but the miles and hours shown do not reflect this loco. It was new old stock. Oh well that will be someone else's problem not mine as I do not plan to sell. To me, this Triplex set (loco and 6 cars) is one of those hard to find things you keep forever.

I believe you can send the board to MTH or take it to a MTH authorized repair center to reprogram the board with the correct name. There is an "override" name you can set too that will stay programmed until a factory reset is done.

This can be done with Remote,app,or RTC (Remote train control). I use RTC to do all these kinds of mods. just with a right click of the mouse its so easy even I can do it.

Yes, I tried that and got no engine to recover. I have talked with someone who mention the microprocessor could be bad. any thoughts. I would like to fix the board if its not to costly.

If the processor board failed not repairable.  But could just be the Power Supply board.  That is repairable.  G

You can't change the permanent name in the board, just the user entered name.  That doesn't survive a factory reset.

I must be living right. (Thank you Jesus)  Today I put the board into an engine chassis that is PS2 3v I had. I tried to do a add engine and got "no engine found". Then a factory reset but without an address that's not possible, then a recovery and again nothing. I put a known good engine on my programming track and tried to add it and got "no engine found". my programming track has its own TIU. Well that got me thinking it must be my TIU is messing up. I have an extra TIU so I tried that one and when I did a find engine guess what it found    yep, there it was, "1 engine found". so I went back to the other TIU and did a factory reset and now all is good. To all thanks for all of your input.
