Hi All,

My wife and I just moved into a new home and I have a section of the basement set aside for the new layout. It's not a huge area but it will do. I'm looking at a 10'x10' which I can use as a L shape, U shape or just a square. I only run tinplate O so scale and scenery are not major factors in the design. What I would like however are 2 main lower levels along with a trolley and two upper levels.

Can anyone suggestion so designs online that might give me a starting point? I also want to keep the radius to 042.

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

Will the layout be tucked into a nook/along walls or in the middle of a large room? If it is tucked into a nook/along walls, how many walls will there be? Any windows or doors to worry about?

Is your tinplate pre-war or current reproduction? What track system do you use for your trains?

As to the track plan, do you want a total of 4 levels, or do you want 2 levels, each with a double track mainline?

Do you want O-42 for personal reasons or for train cars?

When you scenic your layout, will it be with pre-war accesories, new accessories, or a mix?

Hi Stewart,

The layout will be wedged between a wall and a staircase. Attached is a rough diagram of the room and area. The room is big but there are several doors around the perimeter.

My tinplate is mostly MTH repros and I run tubular track

I want 2 levels with double track main line each but I’m open to suggestions.

O-42 works better then O-31 for my trains and O-54 might be a little hard to swing with the limited space

Mostly prewar with some modern animated accessories like a hobo camp, playground, outhouse, etc.

Thanks,

Sam
