IMG_0011This was the first step which was to be a helix, but ended up as my Thachpi loop measuring in as a 10 foot circle.  I alwas though the outside track was a passing siding, but after a Google Map search it ends up as one of 3 main lines into the Long Beach Intermodel yard, perfect for one of the main yards on my layout .  This outside loop on the  layout ends up being a 30 foot yard lead into the Long Beach yard, something Rich would be in favor of.  Once an East bound train leaves Long Beach it runs through The L A Trench  that in real life is 20 miles long and 33 feet deep. Constructed so L A traffic can ride over passing trains instead of having to stop for rail traffic.  once out of L A my trains run around Thachpi loop up to the Keddie Wye, pass a Rocket Assembly plant in Utah, heads pass Chicago onto the 4 main line Horseshoe curve, on to New York  which is in the early stages of construction, and into Newark's Oak Island yards.  The lead for this yard is 50 feet starting at Horse Shoe Curve, hence the 4th line agreed upon by the Board of Director's.

In answer to some questions on the picture showing the tracks and switches, this is the passenger yard lead into the Chicago Union Station shown in the  picture with train sheds and Station.  Again going back to pictures seen years ago of this yard lead, I had to try to emulate if and when the opportunity arose.  Now I had the space, track, and a Double iSlip Switch to build the yard lead.  Not only a 4 tracks into the train sheds, but, when company comes over we can have a contest  to see who can dispatch through this maze of switches in record time.
