Spoke to Andy E at MTH, and the new R17s will be in original as delivered maroon. It's been corrected on the website, and will have updated pictures soon. Unfortunately it will be incorrect in the catalog, and while not new tooling it's great news that we will be getting a different paint scheme. Plus no logos needed!  Looking forward to it!

Give me a couple days to work on that. On my way home from York now, and the guys will be packing and catching their breath from the show for a few days I would think. Definitely disregard and don't read anything into any of the red images in the catalog. Disconnect somewhere between production and the art department I would guess.

Based upon Chris' post, the set will painted in the as delivered scheme. To illustrate, here is a rather close view of the 6500 shortly after it arrived on TA property in '55 taken by Mr. Frank Pfuhler:

In answering, I'll assume your reference to the R-21s pertains to the MTH "Redbird" set released some years back. If the original maroon scheme of the R-17s is reproduced correctly by MTH, it should be darker than the "Fox Red" which was used for the "Redbird" repaints beginning in 1984.

I hope this helps.
