Spoke to Andy E at MTH, and the new R17s will be in original as delivered maroon. It's been corrected on the website, and will have updated pictures soon. Unfortunately it will be incorrect in the catalog, and while not new tooling it's great news that we will be getting a different paint scheme. Plus no logos needed! Looking forward to it!

Chris-
Thanx for following this one. I really would like an as-delivered maroon set of R17s. Do you know if the window sash will show up unpainted (silver) like the prototypes or painted the matching car color like subsequent Redbird schemes?
I WILL AQUIRE 1,I DO REMEMBER THESE.......I WILL PASS ON THE OTHERS,CUZ I ALREADY HAVE THEM.
The R-17's had a porthole window in the end doors, similar to end doors on the earlier R-15s . Lets hope that MTH incorporates this feature since it is a distinctive design feature of an R-17 differentiating it from later car classes.
WILL THE MAROON BE THE SAME MAROON AS THE R21S WITH DA SILVER ROOFS?,BCUZ I REMEMBER THE MAROON ALMOST LOOKED BROWNISH RED ALMOST GRIMY MAROON.THIS WAS BACK IN THE 1980S

Based upon Chris' post, the set will painted in the as delivered scheme. To illustrate, here is a rather close view of the 6500 shortly after it arrived on TA property in '55 taken by Mr. Frank Pfuhler:

TANX CNJ.....
In answering, I'll assume your reference to the R-21s pertains to the MTH "Redbird" set released some years back. If the original maroon scheme of the R-17s is reproduced correctly by MTH, it should be darker than the "Fox Red" which was used for the "Redbird" repaints beginning in 1984.
I hope this helps.
Bob
This is not the R-21 paint scheme.
It is not the same color as the R21s. Bob's pic above shows the color MTH is shooting for. It's a much richer, deeper color than the Redbird scheme.
Windows- painted or unpainted?
I asked for it, but probably won't know for sure if they will do it til they come. Keeping fingers crossed. I would think it is a distinct possiblility since they did it on the R36s and R26s.
WHO OUT THERE HAS THE BEST PRICE?
Kirstin Martinez at MTH advises that the R17 project manager confirms that as-delivered Maroons will come with silver sash. I'm in.
