I’m starting my first layout. Table is built and set up my two trains on tracks.

I am wanting to build a mountain and run one of my tracks up to an elevated point and run through the mountain and the other to run through an underpass at table level under the mountain.

I would appreciate any ideas or critique.

I do plan on using Arduino to run switches, lights, and crossings for a start.

Hello, this is something I drew for another forum member who had a picture of a train shop and was trying to recreate the plan. It has the mountain with a hi / low and even a middle track on the outside.

Mike,

Dumb question, especially for a technical administrator and a former engineer cad tech, what is a scarm file?

I like the idea and even thought about the circular mountain run, however I want to use a series of two right and two left turnouts to tie the inner and outer tracks together for switching trains.

That inner line would be great for parking a train for later use.

Got my brain whirring with ideas!

Playing the scenery into the layout is important. Ideas about that would be appreciated!

I am glad to be a part of this forum 😊

Thank you for your expert advice!

Hi,

SCARM is a Windows-only piece of software used to design and test model railroad layouts.  Testing is pretty much limited to seeing if you like the "play" value of what you designed.  You can download and use it for free, but with limited usefulness (definitely no testing with free use), or you purchase a copy and use it unrestricted.

If you choose to go this route, you would then right click on the file attached to the earlier post, save the file to your computer, and then open it with SCARM.  Other track planning software is also available, but none are now free without limited use restrictions.  Some, however, do let you open any existing file, but then will not let you make any modifications to that existing file.

Good luck,

Chuck
