New Track Plan

That's a substantial track plan! A yard would be the only thing on my wish list but that's only because I enjoy yard operations. I like the length of your straight sections.

Are you using carpet padding as a road bed??

Thanks Bill and there will be a yard and engine facility. That’s carpet padding under the rails. I have yet to incorporate the two pairs of 072 RCS that recently arrived.

Can't wait to see the engine facility! That's something I wish I would have had real estate for.

I never thought about carpet padding. How well does it work? I mean it seems good in the video.

I love my RCS's. I just wired one up the other night. I still can never remember what needs connected but I'm starting to get good at attaching wires. I cheat by splitting the rail apart from the underside with a flathead screwdriver. Then I solder it in there.

The gentleman who installed our flooring is also a Lionel guy. I asked him if he had any remnants and he gave more than I can possibly use. It was easy to install and contours easily. I’m looking forward to getting the RCS incorporated.

You have a great operating track plan.

I would have a concern about how close many of the tracks are to edge of the layout.  Any serious derailment may allow the trains to hit the floor.  Having at least 6 inches of distance from the track to the layout edge would be much more safe.  A larger distance from the track to the layout edge will allow for some type of scenery, small buildings or train items to add to the layout.

You may not have made all plans for more layout details and you have several large areas between the loops.  I would consider adding a turntable and round house.  A TT and RH were a must on my much smaller layout and adds extensive operation and play possibilities.  My turntable is homemade and round house and cost only $10 each to build so cost does not have be an issue.  Details of my are on my profile topic list.

Thank you Charlie for your observations. My objective today was just to see if my idea would fit; and work. The track is not secured and I will be attentive to the edges. Some of the track will be elevated just as an alteration to the landscape. A RH and TT are under consideration. This was a big step for me today.
