I finally have my layout complete what is the next step? Securing track? Wiring?

If it was me wiring. Not having the track tied down can make it easier when you are dropping wires through the layout surface because there is some give, or if there is a connection that is loose that is causing a power drop.
For me, it was:
1. Build tables/paint top
2. Lay out the track loose
3. Wiring
4. After wiring is complete, secure track
5. Any touch-up painting
6. Install scenery, accessories, and structures
7. Connect wiring to accessories and structures, then test
8. Put trains on the track and enjoy
Same here, except #8 came after each step after #2. 😁
I'm with John on this. Good idea to test run trains, especially your larger engines or cars, to uncover any issues as you. I would suggest especially after steps 3, 4 and 6.
I agree. Wire everything and then test your trains to make sure there are no gaps around switches or any other issues.

The important lesson here is to withstand the temptation to move #8 up on the list. Depending on your layout configuration and size, trains typically get in the way of other items which leads to procrastination (sometimes permanently) and/or a less than ideal job. My first layout certainly fit that description which is why I'm essentially sticking to the order listed no matter what on the current layout I'm building. It's tough, but worth it in the long run to me.

I am also in the run the trains prior to securing the track camp, especially if using track that "snaps" together like MTH's. You will what to find that dead spot/problem early on.
