Need help got Lionel o gauge track with crossover 6-5545 and trying to run prewar large engines ( 260,263) on it. Engine keeps stopping after crossing unless you run it super fast but then take chance of derailing. Tried a Ross crossover but tracks are to short ( height) and grounds out from gears touching. Anyone installed a “hot” center to these Lionel crossovers? All other o gauge (150 engine 262 engines) run fine. Just trouble with Large O gauge. Thanks

I published an article in OGR Run 157 Feb 1998 p76 about this problem and how to fix it. The solution is to put a rhombus-shaped galvanized steel plate in the center and solder it to center-rail power. Of course, there are more details in the article.
