Old Lionel Layout: Anyone recognize this track plan?

   Yes it was a Lionel Christmas layout from the 50's set one up just like it when I was a kid.  Bullet proof layout for continuous running.  Lionel 027 Tubular Track & Switches.

I think I have seen a similar plan in a Lionel booklet, possibly 1949 or 1954. I worked out a SCARM plan from the photos; the layout size is close to 68" x 96". It can be built with no cutting of track and just minor fudging in a couple places.

Great info. Thanks guys. This layout is going to need a complete refurbish job. I think it will be a fun project though. My first thoughts are to carefully mark the placement of all track components. Then remove everything, repaint/scenic the tabletop, clean all track, repair/refurbish the switches, then reassemble everything and rewire it all. I am going to get a ZW transformer that goes with the layout.

 I sure wish this deal included all the locomotives, accessories, and cars, that must have originally been used on the layout. The guy giving it to me did not get any of those items with the layout.

Dave, do you happen to remember what year catalog or booklet that plan was published in? I only have the main catalog from 1955, and it has no plans included in it.

Looks to be around 1954/1955

The layout is somewhat similar to this one in the 1954 Lionel booklet "How to operate Lionel trains and accessories", but it is expanded with more spur tracks and uses O27 track instead of O31.
