Ornamental steam whistle with wire on Premier PM Berk

MTH added this detail to a lot of steam locomotives later in the PS2 run. On the Berkshires, ( PM & NKP ) there’s a hole just above the handrail on the fireman’s side on those later production models. The whistle cord is tied to the whistle lever, and just goes in the hole. It is not tied to anything inside the cab…..

Thanks, Pat. You can see in my photo that I stuck the cord in the hole (there are actually three holes there). But the wire is so bent out of shape, I can only guess how it is supposed to look.

By the way, this model is from 2001. I’m assuming I should watch out for the dreaded speaker problem?

Some of us add this detail if its not there already. You can use fine brass or steel wire .010-.015” or beading wire. Imagine its rope and have it hang accordingly.

Yes, look at the speaker ….amongst other things in a PS2 5V engine …

There’s a product we use to fix these cords & lanyards even better looking than factory. Beading wire is available, in stranded form, this stuff looks like stranded O scale cord. Most craft stores keep it, or the popular shopping sites. I want to say it’s called black onyx beading wire in .012 diameter …….it’s not expensive at all, and if you need some, I can get the part number

It's a confirmed PS2 5V.  Things you most definitely should be aware of and check on 22 year old MTH engine. 20-3066-1

• The battery or BCR replacement- never ever use a white OEM battery in 2023- it's 20+ years old.
