Hi all,

I have a question with an elusive answer concerning my Pere Marquette no. 1225 Berkshire (20-3066-1) , which I bought used in September. It has nice detail item that my MTH Nickel Plate Road no. 765 Berk doesn’t have: an ornamental steam whistle with a wire (representing a cable) leading back to the cab. But when mine arrived, the cable wire was loose, no longer anchored to wherever it was attached inside the cab.

The problem is I can find no pictures of this wire. MTH’s product photo only shows the engineer’s side. So does Liveauctioneer’s photos for another sample of this model. The MTH product manual only shows an image of the 765.

Was this wire added by the previous owner? If not, how was it strung from the whistle to the cab? I’m hoping someone else who has this model can answer this question with certainty. (See photos.)

Yes, look at the speaker ….amongst other things in a PS2 5V engine …

There’s a product we use to fix these cords & lanyards even better looking than factory. Beading wire is available, in stranded form, this stuff looks like stranded O scale cord. Most craft stores keep it, or the popular shopping sites. I want to say it’s called black onyx beading wire in .012 diameter …….it’s not expensive at all, and if you need some, I can get the part number

By the way, this model is from 2001. I’m assuming I should watch out for the dreaded speaker problem?

It's a confirmed PS2 5V.  Things you most definitely should be aware of and check on 22 year old MTH engine. 20-3066-1

  • The battery or BCR replacement- never ever use a white OEM battery in 2023- it's 20+ years old.
  • The speaker
