I just finished cutting and gluing the Homasote (440 Pinacle) to the plywood base on my new layout. Once the liquid nails for projects cures I intend to paint it with latex paint as recommended by Homasote on their web site. Has anyone had any experience with the Homasote shrinking or warping after painting with latex paint? My tolerances on my lower level are pretty tight and if I get much shift in the size of the pieces I'm in trouble! Additionally, has anyone used a primer such as Kills or a Latex primer prior to painting the Homasote and if so what was your result. Thanks for your info and suggestions!

Hi, Mordrid. I've always used Kilz latex as a primer and latex paint over that. Have not had any negative results.

Homasote should not shrink or warp when painted. I do not use latex paint, however. I used acrylic craft paint- it's cheaper. I've never seen the need for a primer coat, and i've been using Homasote for 30+ years .
I have painted my Homasote with Behr flat latex paint from Home Depot. The Homasote in the yard area is 32" wide by 45' long. I noticed swelling at the edges of the Homasote. It was noticeable but caused no problems. I rolled it on.

Ace Hardware is giving away a free quart of pint on Saturday. Check your local Ace for details.
I painted my whole layout which has 22 sheets of Homasote and had no warping or shrinking. I did have inconsistencies with the thickness of the sheets but that was a mfg issue not due to the heavy coats of latex
I've never used a primer. Just thick latex paint. 20 years.
I use latex drywall primer/sealer and have it tinted to an earth color.
On my layout I used dry wall primer as the first coat since it is cheaper. Second coat was flat latex the color you want. No problem using a roller and it looks great. All paint was Behr from home depot.
Homasote will soak up the paint so two coats may be necessary depending on how heavy to roll it on. Check with HD and Lowes paint departments to see what they have in unclaimed paint.

Thank you everyone for such quick responses and good insight into the results I can expect with the Homasote.
I never use a primer, just a good coat of whatever I have left over at the house and I have had great success...the only thing I have noticed are the inconsistencies in thickness. Now as for that, it is as Matt stated...a manufacturing issue and not caused by the paint at all.
