Rick, check out the museums in the area. I know of a museum at Gelena,Ks (west of Joplin on old US66) and a museum on the west side of Joplin in a park that have pictures and mineing displays. Picher, Okla had a museum but I have not been over to Picher after the tornado, so it maybe gone. You can see the old railroad road beds in the area and in someplaces see old tracks.

I think the picher museum was moved to Joplin. I have been to the picher one when they would have the reunions back in the 70s. I have maps of the tri state area that have been passed down in the family. I hunted rabbits along the tracks in Quapaw as a youth. Have seen black and white pics of the neo steamers, but not very good ones, and have not been able to find much on the diesels. I believe they used Alcos, but not sure. Will memorial day before I go back to the area (my grandfathers and great grandfathers are buried in Galena and Miami.
