New/first layout, tables done, time to lay track.  So... I have my plan done in software but realize that things shift when you actually do the install.  I have lots of operating accessories so how do you all figure out where to insert uncoupler and operating/UCS track?  This sounds like an iterative process where you first layout regular track, install operating accessories and then test for clearance.  So how should I approach this step?

What software are you using?   You should be able to insert uncouplers/UCS tracks in the program along with the accessories.   Also, which track system.

For accessories, put them right in front of where the car will need to activate or uncouple.   For uncoupling, place them wherever you need to uncouple cars.   If you can't determine this from your track plan using software then you'll have to figure out when actually laying track.

If you are looking for something more specific refer to these pics:

Hope this helps.

Kirk,

Where Greg placed the uncouplers is where one would place them for dropping off strings of cars as in a classification yard.  For coupling cars it is best if there is a run straight track on both sides of the uncoupler.  Very long cars ans engines usually have a coupler not fixed to their trucks.  Also, you need to watch clearances between cars on adjacent tracks,
