For you people who use the Mianne product for O gauge layouts, do you use the 24 inch spacing of beams or the 30 or perhaps some other dimension? I see that standard designs are available for both.
I didn't know about the 30 inch spacing, but the setup I bought uses 24 inches. I would think that's better anyway as 24 inches is a common denominator of a 4 x 8 piece of plywood, while 30 inches is not.
I started with a 30" round the room design (14' x 16'), and added a 48" island down the middle of the area which is accessible from either side. Tim will customise his standard layouts to your needs. His website says he can do differing sizes, just think in 6" increments.
Around my layout I use both and have aisles so that I can reach almost all from either side. Remember also, depending on your substrate, you can overhang it off the the edge for added width. By doing this, you will also get the legs out of the edge of the aisle.
I would think a lot depends on what you want to do with track. I'm laying track right now on a 14' x 28' x 30"around the room with a liftgate with 138, 128 and 113 radius curves on 3 mainlines with 1 siding. There's not much room for anything but track. I'll need to add on to the sides at a later date. It looked really big until I started laying track.
I would call them and discuss your concerns with them. They helped me out a lot with my order. I talked to them a couple of times about several things. They made some very good suggestions which I ended up following. They can help you figure it all out so you get the best setup for your plan. They make a great product and offer some great help.
