I know removal of lettering from locos and rolling stock without damaging the underlying paint has been covered innumerable times before but several searches have not turned up an answer I'm looking for.  I have had success using Testor's Easy Lift Off on some items and not so much on others.  I've also used Mr.Clean Magic Erasers and mechanical drafting erasers.  I've even used mineral spirits on die cast locomotives but I don't believe that's an option on plastic.  I seem to remember that certain MTH lettering was harder to remove than others products.  Has anyone removed the lettering or numbers from Rail King flat cars if you have what worked best for you?

I have several Rail King heavy weight passenger cars with Pennsy livery that I want to re-letter to "Long Island." I am afraid of ruining the plastic and the Tuscan Red paint finish with chemicals, so I am going to use this technique.

Rather than remove the "Pennsylvania" lettering, I am going to paint over it with Tuscan Red plus clear gloss, then apply "Long Island" decals. So my technique is to paint over the unwanted factory lettering with the base color of the rolling stock, then apply decals / stencils.

That could work as long as you can match the base color.  I haven't attempted the removal yet. I have done this type of removal before using two or three different methods.  I was just asking in case some one had done it successfully before.  A while back some one asked a similar question and one of the responses was about a WBB 44 tonner.  It was in PRR livery and @Chris Lonero, removed the lettering with a Pink Pearl eraser.  That answer couldn't have been better because I planned on doing that very same job and now I know how to do it successfully.
