Hi, All;

Enclosed please see my current layout plan.  The benchwork is built, and the track plan is pretty firm.  Note that the lower right corner, I'll probably go with a 3 track yard instead of the curved siding (was just trying to use up track...).

Large loop on left is Atlas 054; most other curves are 045. 12' length, 8' depth on right side.  About the only hard and fast "need" is to have a runway (aviation family). I have the Plasticville terminal and hangar, along with the Lionel rotating beacon and radar antenna.  The runway *could* be placed in the center of the 054 loop, but I was really wanting a mountain/tunnel.

Wanted the 036 oval in the middle of the 054 just to be able to have a second train running.  If that stays, I'm thinking about elevating that on top of the mountain; perhaps with some trestles supporting part of it.

Any ideas or suggestions on fun things to do?  I want it more toy-train-like than hi rail. I have the Lionel gateman, barrel loader, cattle platform, milk car, freight station, and passenger platform.

Thanks for any suggestions;

Hi,

The reason for being is derived from the railroad that you model or what they worked. Passenger service is a definite with a runway/airport.

The barrel loader, cattle platform, milk car accessories need the hand of god at times and need a decent straight section, like 15". Looks like the sidings are within reach and are the location for those.

Perhaps a winery and farm (rows of arbors and a pasture) on the inside of the O36 (farm house and barn) with road to the barrel loader cattle on the low left for pickup of barrels and milk and drop off of cattle and delivering the products on the right spur with the freight station and milk car for product distribution.

Add a switch to connect the two loops there for the small freight to deliver to town on the right.

Plasticville has a nice airport and hangar building, I think menard's has a Quonset hut.

I dunno, just rambling...

Carl, thanks for the suggestions. I like your idea of production and delivery to the opposite ends.

Chris, I forgot to mention in my post that I do have an oil derrick. Since I was going to change the right lower loop to have a 3 track yard in the middle of it, I was thinking I could also incorporate some refinery / pipeline items in there as well; would make sense having the derrick geographically separated.

Thanks!
