I just heard late February early March.

From who? From what Walter has been saying, as recently as Jan. 19 (see links above), that’s not likely. Maybe you heard something from him?
I’m not sure what Walter means when he says things are “in production now.” He has been saying that about these ore cars since September.
2025 would be a sure bet
Just looked.
Ordered mine March 14, 2022
Maybe I'll have an anniversary party next month.

That's nothing. I waited nearly 10 years for the Atlas GP7's.
Already celebrated my anniversary. I ordered the ore cars on 1/11/22. Wonder if the woodchip cars will take a year +?
Still no word?

For what? The ore cars? The first arrived in mid July. I bought mine more than a month ago.
Strange. I did a special order when they were first announced from Trainworld. It still shows my order is waiting. Guess I need to call.
Thanks

Not all the roadnames have arrived. I got the C&NW one. Still waiting for the Milwaukee Road.
I never pre-order from RMT. When it shows up on the shelf and if I like it I buy it, that way I'm not disappointed with how long it takes to get or how it looks.
I don’t mind pre-ordering and waiting. But to provide updates about something being “in production” 10 months before they are released is a false teaser. And to not respond to direct questions about estimated release dates after so many marketing posts is far from customer friendly.
Be honest with customers. That’s all I’m saying.
I have stopped purchasing any pre-orders until I’m caught up.
Jim R. great quote. Be honest with customers.
I think Walter has been as up front has he could. I'm still waiting for the LIRR cars.....I'm in no rush.
I do agree with @Jim R. about updates tho....

Jim R., DMASSO, Da Moose, MichRR714, Craftech, MerCruser... 'in production' means just that. Factory doing cad drawing, approval from RMT, preliminary test shots, tweaking things if needed to get right, more test shots, confirming correct paint color, visually checking pad printing, receiving photo samples, then actual pre-production samples...if anything not right...do it again...and more pre-production samples. All this takes time.
While many are looking forward to RMT products, and I thank you for that, the end result should always be what you as a customer would be happy with running on your railroad...and at a realistic price point too.
Thanks for your support and patience.

Then explain what you mean when you say the models are in production and provide an estimated release date, like other manufacturers do.

I think he just did

You saw an estimated release date for the various RMT releases. Funny, I must have missed them. Please list them.
Here’s an example of how modelmakers communicate:
We have these Ore cars in stock.
Thanks

RMT-96741 Chicago & North Western Ore Car 6-Car Set This is a 6-car set. Accurately and prototypically painted in the C&NW's 'Zito Yellow' paint scheme. This car is a good example of Stagecoach Yellow color and what became known as Zito Yellow, so named for the Vice President-Operations at the time, Jim Zito. Under his directive during the early 1980's, and with concern for improved visibility, it became the new C&NW yellow paint color used on all locomotives, freight and passenger cars. This RMT car represents a truly unique C&NW Ore Car.

An “in production” tag combined with an estimated release date gives folks all the information they need. The definition of “in production” isn’t the key here. It was only mentioned months ago because people were left wondering when their preorders would be followed by some hint of arrival, with only a generalized term that offered little in the way of an answer.
Given that Walter was already posting something announcing status changes (“in production”), it wouldn’t have been any significant added burden to simply say “release in mid-2023” with an honest explanation that his manufacturing partner‘s production schedule is out of his control.
Now, I appreciate Walter’s manufacturing efforts and RMT’s products, which I have been buying for more than 20 years. I, and others, were merely suggesting more clarity. Your responses have only escalated the ire that was never intended. I hope your happy.

Thanks, Walter. That’s a nice summary of the steps in the process. The only thing I would add to it is an estimated release date, since those steps can easily take a year or more to complete. If there is a delay, just post something more later, like “sorry everyone, but due to circumstances beyond our control, our target release date won’t be met. But we’re still trying.”
With that tidbit, people will understand. The delays of stuff coming out of China is a problem for everyone and shouldn’t reflect on the importer.
The price is fantastic and the product so far has been great. These might be the best O gauge ore cars made dating back to the Atlas Austrian-made ones in the 1970s.

Walter,
Unfortunately, the tasks and events you've listed are generally considered, for nearly all manufactured products, part of product development and not part of production. To most people in production means "presently being manufactured", and not "still finishing up the design process".
However, having said this I have no problem being patient while RMT's design process on these cars is running its course.
Patience is a virtue in our hobby.
Mike
As someone who waited nearly a decade for Atlas to release some GP's I find the RMT production timeline to be much more reasonable. Walter delivers a great product at prices people can afford. I for one am looking forward to seeing all the new products that are on the way from RMT.

I am always happy
A recent quip I read went something to the effect that the older you get the less of a deterrent life imprisonment becomes.
For me, as I age preordering seems to be more an exercise in optimism than practicality. Can you imagine the puzzlement/horror on the faces of your survivors when they get invoices/cc statements with all the preorders that arrived after your demise?
If you weren't dead already they would probably kill you!
But I digress, my point is that I try to maintain a healthy perspective that we are talking model trains here and not organ transplants.
The train items we crave will get here when they get here except maybe for Strasburg #90!
