I am looking to put a saw mill on my layout but the problem is i only have an area shaped like a half moon,& only 10" deep at it's deepest point & about 24" long i have just bought some small log cars to go with my shay engine & a saw mill would be nice to have,i know the area i have is small, but that doesn't bother me,is there any difference between a lionel saw mill & a mth saw mill?,also i am open to any suggestions as to what other options i have to get a saw mill on my layout.   Thanks in advance.

Good advice from Lee[above] for customizing to the space you have:

Mine is a small Frick Sawmill sold by Fox River years ago. I elected to close up a triangular access corner and install the mill with a mountain [of sorts] as a background filler in the sharp corner behind it.

The log car on the spur exiting the fake tunnel [to the deep woods] and delivering logs to the Mill was borrowed from my Shay set. A bulkhead lumber car is also normally up-track on the spur. The spur exits the outer mainline via an 096 curved switch.

The sawdust is from the farm shop's table saw and a coat is simply glued over a foam profile. Every thing including the mountain and tunnel portal is placed with Velcro and removable.

Job started in 2011 but health issues intervened and stopped work.

I like the k-line saw mill it looks nice, but i may have to  scratch build something as Lee & Dewey have suggested, here are a few pictures of the space i have, there isn't any room to put in a siding for the mill the tracks that are there are from the main line,i do have a larger area, but i wanted to put some town buildings there,i will have take another look & see if i want to make any more changes,it seems that even when you think you have everything down pat, another idea comes into your head & the hunt for more space begins again.I could extend the area to where the drill is,that would give me a little more space.

High  Mark,i was very pleased with the caboose,it was much nicer than i expected as far as painting it is concerned,i lke the color, but i would like to remove the name Pennsylvania on both sides  & put Meadow River Lumber Co. instead,i still have the name you gave me for the person to do that, but i don't know if she can do it without painting the whole caboose,i will have to give her a call & find out.
