Good Sunday morning.

Continuing my scenery tour of the Eastern District, this week I wanted to showcase all the different towers that are situated around the layout.

Enjoy the pictures.

Donald

Starting off, an old MTH tower (now out of service) that controlled access to the Lionel #213 lift bridge. Just behind the UP C630 #2904 is the remnants of an old Korber interlocking tower.  Valley Junction tower now controls all bridge movements.

Further down the mainline is the East Interlocking tower, another MTH model that was painted and detailed.

As we approach Valley Junction, we are greeted with the newest tower on the system. It is the MTH Yard Master Tower and it controls all movements in and out of the yard as well as the lift bridge.

Once we enter the yard we pass Cheyenne Junction tower (my personal favorite on the layout). It is a painted and super detailed Walthers (now Atlas) kit.

There are two more towers hidden within the yard limits. First is Tower TT which controls all train movements around the turntable and roundhouse. It is an Atlas kit painted and detailed.

The second one controls a small freight yard comprised of service tracks and the siding for the Lionel Irvington factory. It is an Atlas kit painted and super detailed.

On the upper level we find another Atlas model guarding the approach to the “high bridge”.

Finally, controlling the small yard west of Rico Station is a “built-up” (out of production) Walthers tower along with its tool shed and freight house.

Good Sunday morning to ALL!

Got to spend a couple evenings this week on the coal mine tipple company.

the dump house got built and finished all the pullys inside the main building to operate the tipple and conveyors .

Started wiring it and getting ready to do the lower half of it.

Finally got around to weathering the crane car yesterday.

Added windows, added work lights, cut the high stack, added vents converting it to the later non-steam version.

All the areas that receive direct sun were faded and re-painted to light grey.

Hard to believe it was a toy like Railking.

Boy, where to start...

Jim and Leslie: That may be the most convincing single model building I've ever seen.

Patrick: That machinery looks like it is about to start moving coal. I think you are going to have to make it into an operating accessory!

Steve: The subtlety of your work always amazes me.

Thomas: Nothing like modeling a building that means something to you.  Great work.

Alan: Spectacular scratchwork. The water tower is exquisite. The dog isn't very convincing, though.

Thanks, everybody for taking the time to share. Beautiful work by all.

So many great postings this week:

Patrick, that tipple should be the centerpiece star. If not, I'd really like to see the rest of the layout . A great job so far.

Jim and Leslie, that's a fabulous creation. I'm sure I've seen real prototype buildings just like that. Beautiful detail.

Thomas, that is going to be one terrific and unique structure. Very impressive.

Jerrman

Thanks Fred,  That is double layered roofing paper dry brushed.  For lines chalk is used followed by dilute paint. It gives the lines a more aged look.

Jim, that is concrete backer board painted black then sprinkled with very fine grey or black

flock/ballast. That stone building is fantastic. Reminds me of buildings along rte 18 and 104 along lake Ontario  Was there a thread showing materials for the stone front that I missed?

Hey transman,

Seems you got the better deal but we both made out, just some more than others!!!

There is a lot of talent roaming these forums that needs to have a slap on the back and a well done given! Man, you guys do good work! Keep it up so that others can learn your secrets and solutions.

Frank
