I was wondering how many of you out there have a schedule for your toy train layout.  I build mine with the intention of having a calendar and a schedule, I could build trains , run them a certain number of times to represent a location, I have industries I can drop off and pick up cars, I have an engine facility and a classification yard.  But I have no idea where to start in making a schedule to follow. Has anyone done this, can you offer suggestions

I would suggest that you try some of the Scheduling Programs that are available.  I use "Ship-it" from Albion Software.

It cost some money but the price of ~$180 you can get the scheduling software, a waybill system and an inventory program.  They have crippled software that you can try for free for a period of time to see how the programs work or don't work for you.  Others will chime in with thier favorite scheduling program.
