So I know a number of y'all do temporary layouts and a lot of the time it's just using collapsible tables and placing your track on it. Well I've designed a 9x6ft layout that I want to use for next Christmas that allows for the tree to sit inside the layout and the layout itself is meant to be on the floor. The issue is that I enjoy my inclines, Passovers, and tunnels. So I basically need permanent layout that sits directly on the floor (hardwood) but that can be broken down into sections that can be safely stored. I'm certain that I'm not the first person to have this idea but I listed what options I was looking at below. I'd love to hear suggestions from the rest of y'all.

Option 1:  3/4in Birch plywood in two 6x4ft sections and one 6x1ft section reinforced with 2x4s for rigidity

Option 2:  3/4in Birch plywood in two 6x4ft sections and one 6x1ft section with 72in piano hinges connecting to allow it to be folded on itself

Let me know what y'all think, please.

Look at all the threads here on modular layouts and then DON'T put any leges on them!  Really.  Make em' light as they are sitting on the floor, so plenty of mid frame support.  When being stored they will not have any strutures etc to worry about.  1x4 with a luan skin covered in 1 inch foam will be plenty strong and very light.  Russ
