Its a space 8 feet off the ground. Its currently sitting on a small loop.  I am not unfamiliar with difficult project, however that is an inconvenient space...LOL

I was hoping for a little climb on an inner loop for more view ability.  My only concern are having enough elevation to clear the cross over and get max height on the inner loop.  I have long distance visions of a suspended ledge layout near ceiling height that circumferences the entire room.

I'm thinking your best bet for that space is a flat track plan on a piece of plywood that you can slide up in there, after building it and testing it down at work-table level. Then you need some sort of platform to stand on for a viewing area up yonder.

An up-and-over track plan in that loft space is just askin' fer trouble when the access is inconvenient. More opportunities for accidents that will be difficult to reach. If you build an overhead layout around the room, wear a helmet while operating it. Happy Railroading!

Guy;

I'd go with the ledge around the room and use the space you have indicated as a storage area to switch out a couple trains.

Since you are up so high, make sure your switches are bulletproof prior to sliding the board up there and connecting up to the loop/loops around the room.

Your viewing angle is going to be poor. That's why I mention making sure the switches are perfect prior to putting them up there. If anything derails you won't know it until it pops the circuit breakers.

Perhaps just parking the trains there when not running and having no switches would really be best.

As for the over/under up there, I'd advise against it. Use a crossing perhaps, but not up and over, the grades are far too steep.
