For the last three weeks I have been planning a small layout whose theme is the operation of a Trackmobile.

I purchased the RR-Track software and worked out a layout that would allow a Trackmobile to operate on both Lionel FasTrack and SuperStreets.

Thus far I have most of the required FasTrack (except two pieces of 1 3/8" and a small O60 curve). Soon I will be purchasing the required SuperStreets.

The layout was figured to fit a 76" by 48" rectangular sheet.

The pics is a "position fit" so that I can cut a small river in the upper right hand corner.

And... the star of the layout:

After receiving the FasTrack and SuperStreets that I had hoped would be needed for my small layout, I did a test fit.

Yesterday I laid a foundation of thin grey indoor/outdoor carpet on the plywood to deaden the sound of wheels running on track.

Today I put together what I hope will be the track and SuperStreets for my layout. The TrackMobile is on the SuperStreet and two freight cars are on the FasTrack (as you can see).

Next I need to remove the remotes from the switches that are Command Control and then perform a test run through all track and SuperStreets.

The "mainline" will accommodate Lionel's L&N 0-8-0 Legacy Steamer. The layout will primarily be for covered hopper operation. One of the five that I will purchase is resting on a spur.

Buildings and scenery to follow...

Normally it wouldn't be left there. But I could pull it back onto the "mainline" with any loco.

Typically, I will have the TrackMobile pull the hopper into the spur you see it in now and back it back into the long spur.

The TrackMobile has complete freedom within the track and street to get anywhere on the layout.

The TrackMobile is ideal for a small layout.
