Started rebuilding my train layout in our new home - the Gargraves track with wood tiles smells awful - any suggestions on the best way to remove that smell - no issues with any of my other Gargraves track with plastic ties. Track was stored for about 4 years in a dry area - no rust or any tarnish on the track - no visible sign of damage.

you might try leaving it outdoors in the full bright sunlight for a few ( or many ) days. Airing it out won't hurt, and the sunlight will help reduce the source of the odor
Was it sprayed with a coating to prevent rust?
Were they sealed in plastic?

I've had good luck eliminating things like cigarette smoke odor and burnt electronics odor from trains using Febreze unscented odor eliminator for fabrics. Spray your track, let it dry and the odor should be gone.

Will try that - we are in NC so we have plenty of sun!

Don’t know - it is Gargraves - sent them an email asking for suggestions. I will ask. Thanks!

Good idea - I also have some Orange stuff that smells good - but I think that may be a temporary solution to hide the smell.

If you are going to flex it, you will need to spray down the ties with WD40 anyway, that should negate the other odor.
