My first attempt at building a layout. It's a u shape design and still needs some work. I have the city plus some sidetracks to finish. Plus I have to add people etc... I used fastrack because I had a good supply on hand and didn't want to invest in another type of track.

Superb work, Rob. You must have done lots of research to come up with so nice a layout. A bedroom is a top-notch location for trains, IMHO: good climate control, maybe carpeting, close to the living area of the house. Congratulations.

Thanks guys! The carpet really helps muffle fastrack..plus I'm using Legacy so the trains aren't making as much noise when they crawl by. Trust me I made plenty of mistakes but it's been fun!

Rob, you've succeeded where some of us have not. OGR should really do an article on your layout, instead of the gymnasium-sized layouts they've featured. Your layout is what I should be reading about!
Is there a trackplan you could share with us?
Maybe I can scratch out a plan Mike. I just started with a 9 x 6 yard.... I moved it into the corner and started expanding! The upper loop through the mountain has reverse loops at both ends of the room. The one large loop is all the way around the u-shaped bench work. I just kept adding track where I could, lol ...

To make the most of my limited space everything is 036... curves and switches alike. I just used manual switches on my upper loop since they have the derailing feature and just swap directions automatically.
