I'll play underdog and say Metroliners with opening doors and what not (even though those odds are a million to one).
Can't see what you can make visionary about a GG1... It's a curvy brick that whurrs.  Auto pans and steam blowoff have already been done. What's left? Leaking steam fittings on the pilot? Same goes for a toaster. It's just hard to put tricks in an electric locomotive.
The T1 guys probably have it.

I like Lionel's move to the museum; it does provide an extra marketing buzz, plus you will be surrounded by real/prototype trains instead of just toy trains.

I would tend to believe that it won't be a V/L K4 since Lionel recently released the Legacy K4's.  (How about a K5?)  I do think it will be something from existing tooling that will be greatly enhanced.  The V/L GG1 would be interesting to see, but what else could Lionel offer other than Legacy to their most recent scale GG1 offering?  Old Rivets would be neat, but that would require tooling which I don't think Lionel is willing to invest in for such a limited audience.

Maybe the museum was chosen to feature a Strasburg RR engine?  But what I would really like to see (if Lionel has access to the tooling) would be a re-release of the K-Line Suburban Tank 4-6-6T w/ Legacy and whistle steam and of course a Lionmaster Legacy Hudson w/ whistle steam.

I'm guessing the announcement will be the new Vision Line #60 Trolley!

That could be a cool update.

Maybe with Legacy. Or instead of mechanical bumpers, optical sensors that can sense impending collision and reverse the direction without contact.

Of course this #60 trolley would probably cost $300-$400 (minimum, with the Vision tag).

That would probably then lead to all # 60 type trolleys being listed at $250 or more, so maybe this isn't such a good idea after all!

Dave, you're probably right.  I guess the same would go for the Gang Car and Track Maintenance Car.

But upon further review of the RR Museum of Pennsylvania exhibits, my Crystal Ball says it will more likely will be this for the Vision Line 2016 entry:

The Vision Line Pantograph Transport Flat Car!

Concur with prrhorseshoecurve.  If Lionel were to go with new tooling, a PRR N2sa USRA 2-10-2 makes a lot of sense.  It was used by several roads, and its a large engine so it can hold all the goodies Lionel could put in it.

However, I also concur with others that Lionel may not invest in new tooling and do something similar with what they did with their Big Boy tooling.  If this is the case, I would hope Lionel worked out some agreement with MTH to allow Lionel to release a VL PRR T1.

Oddly enough after the release of the VLBB its about all I could afford to buy.

Although the NYC did operate in Pennsylvania, there aren't any NYC locomotives at the museum, and I doubt Lionel will be unveiling a locomotive not represented at the museum. That would also eliminate the decapod, unless I misread the roster that NEPA kindly posted the link to.  Like NEPA, I would also like to see the L1s.

If you don't like paying admission to the museum, join the Friends of the RR Museum of Penna. and get in for free while helping to preserve the heritage that our hobby models.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, my bad.

I thought this introduction was at the TCA Museum.

One would think a Pennsy loco.

Not an Allegheny

Not an Acela

GG1 . . . . . Gee whiz, how much can you improve the JLC GG1's? I have all six and I don't think the sounds can be improved much, after all it is an electric. What are they going to add? Pantographs you can use under wire? Nah.

Mountain or K4? Enough pIzzaz?

T-1 or S-1? Kinda hard to get very excited.

Conundrum

PS: Lionel has already done two Vision Line offerings in Pennsy anyway. Now three?

I do concur with this guess. I hope its this type:

and NOT the Two Demonstrators that MTH and 3rd rail have done to Death! I am in for a t1 for sure!

This picture is of an as-built Baldwin T1 with the shrouding (with the portholes) covering the front cylinders.  The shrouding was removed soon after the engines were delivered to ease maintenance.

The version of the T1 Lionel built in 2000 represented the T1 latter in its short life with the shrouding removed.  I assume this will also be the version Lionel will release, if it does the T1,  since they should already have the tooling.  The issue is this engine was part of MTH's lawsuit and I think Lionel will need some sort of agreement with MTH before it is built again.  I just hope they use a different cab number from the first issue (5511).

Well, I scrolled through this thread and I think we're going to see another large Pennsy steamer.  My candidates (in order of probability):

  1. T-1 (hasn't been done for awhile)
  2. I1 Decapod (Lionel's never made this one)
  3. J1 (hasn't been done in a longer while)
  4. N1 (to my knowledge no one's made these in O)
  5. N2 (ditto)
  6. M1a/b - long shot given the Legacy version in recent years.

I guess we'll see.

I have no inside information.  Nobody is talking.  I would still put my money on the T-1.  They are not going to trick out some smaller (less money) locomotive and do a big splash like this.

As a rule, I stay clear of that museum due to the fact they have a PRR icon (Rivets 4800) outside rotting away while nothing freight cars are inside.

Lionel picked this location for a reason and my money is on a PRR locomotive.  Second thought would be the big red E unit that is inside.  I hope it is a T-1.

I'm basically modeling NYC, so I agree. But truth be told, I would also be happy with the Allegheny, one of my favorites after reading a lot about the big steam era - but only if it has steam chest, blow down, Dynamo and whistle steam. Otherwise I'm all set with my Premier version at what was probably less than half the price.

N1 (to my knowledge no one's made these in O). 3RD RAIL DID THIS ONE SEVERAL YEARS AGO.  STILL, ITS A GOOD VL CANDIDATE.

Thanks Ron.  Your memory is better than mine!

I too have been hoping to see this one done right, with all the bells and whistles, er, steam effects. Will keep my fingers crossed. Peter
