Finally getting off my duff and made a start on my winter themed layout. Just a simple oval of Lionel 031 tubular with a single siding via a manual control 022 turnout. Railroad will be Pennsylvania with power provided by a 671 Turbine set that I got last fall off facebook market place and my newly aquired 227 semi scale PRR B6 set with my birthday money. That last set is sort of what got me off my duff. Got the track plan worked out with an angled corner to leave room for the RW transformer. I then put out a few of the buildings I have, the ceramic ones I painted years ago, the tinplate Marx Girard station, milk platform and some crossing lights. The other end of the layout just has my 394 beacon on it. Planning to paint the board a gloss white and sprinkle glitter on it while its still wet to give the effect of fresh snow. I am hoping to come up with enough of the old rubber roadbed for this little loop to cut down on the noise. Tinplate noise is hard for me to cope with, and I would rather not have to wear my ear muffs when running trains(wear those enough at work to cope with that loud enviroment). Dr Who fans will see my O scale Tardis, built from one of those metal earth kits.

Nice. That's what I like to see, more tubular track post-war type layouts.
Mine will be a mix of late prewar and early postwar Dan. The primary runner is my new semi scale B6 set from 1941/42 time frame. The RW came with the Turbine set, I rebuilt it this morning with a new cord and general going over. It has the look of the earlier postwar R and Q while giving me the whistle button for the teledyne couplers on the 0-6-0 or whistle in the Turbine's tender. I removed the smoke unit from the Turbine, for one it was burnt out and two, most all the smoke scents like to trigger my asthma. So even though I like the smell of the postwar pellets and a couple of the oils, the Turbine will not have the feature or the noise of the flapper now. The 227 and my father's 1655 lack smoke. I wasn't able to have smoking engines as a child either. The couple that did have it, got disabled by the local hobby shop before I could run the engine. I have more ceramic buildings to get off the shelf and clean up once I get further along. I have a good 275 watt ZW that needs a home, and I need rubber roadbed. Mike the Aspie
Mike, are you looking to jettison your ZW ?
Yes, have it listed for $85 plus shipping, but don't really want to try to ship it, afraid I wont get it packed well enough and it will get broke due to it being so darn heavy. The RW I have works great and is all the layout really needs, being a single train operation. I can use the funds for the Johnson rubber roadbed that I need.
I get it. I had a ZW shipped to me. The core had dislodged. Fortunately it simply snapped back into place and no electrical damage was done. The next ZW I bought I asked the seller to be sure to package it well, as I told him of my previous experience. Are you anywhere near Philadelphia ?
I got my Johnson's rubber roadbed. My ear say it cut the noise level in half if not more. Its like running on carpet instead of a wood table top. I will put wood screws thru the rubber road bed and not thru the metal ties when I fasten the track down. After the sound test, I took everything off the layout. Then it snowed! Gloss Valspar paint with crystal glitter dusted on while the paint was still wet. Really sparkles in person, the camara doesn't really capture this. Here is the bare table top painted and glittered. It is much more white looking in person. Table looks like its floating with no structure, there is a frame under it, just back a couple inches and wall mounted on 3 sides. Totally open in the front. I plan on getting some Lionel fabric at the store(if they have any) and making a curtain to hide the "stuff" under the table. I will take new pic later this evening as the track is back on the layout since this was taken earlier today. Mike the Aspie
