I have 1 1/2 reels of led lights on top of my kitchen cabinets ,my wife watches tv with these lights on instead of the regular kitchen lights because the brightness bothers her eyes ,i have these lights also hooked up around my train layout ,we just got a new tv in the kitchen & last night while she was watching tv she went to change the volume on the tv & in doing so the led reels starting blinking different colors & tonight it did the same thing this is using the tv remote ,why would the tv remote cause the led reels to start blinking different colors ? ,it makes no sense to me does anyone have a reason for this to happen ?.i have no idea what is going on ,non of this happened with the old tv.

Hi Gerald, first off the reel of light were probably made to have different colors that can be changed with a remote that come with the reel. Your new TV remote is probably using IR transmitter same as which would have been found with a remote that would have come with the reel.
Mike ,yes the reels are the rgb color reels but she was using the tv remote pointed at the tv ,the controler for the lights is located behind her up on the top of the cabinets ,the tv remote wasn't even pointed in the direction of the controler for the lights ,so is it still possible for the tv remote to affect the lights ? Another question i have is why didn't this happen with the old tv?,could it be because it is a different brand thus using a different frequency ?
Mark ,yes i did install them & it did come with a remote & the controller is pointing down into the kitchen ,now i noticed that when it started doing this i was using the green color ,so i switched to white & everything seemed to be ok ,then i went back to green & in a short while it started blinking again whenever she changed the volume on the tv strange thjngs are happening .
The IR light can bounce off the TV screen and affect the LED receiver. That's what I'm thinking.
I am going to do a little experimenting to try & find out what is going on ,if i can't find out why this is happening ,i will post what if anything i find .
Leo is right on. The IR from the remote is bouncing around the kitchen into the receiver for the LED string. Different colors in the string work on different frequencies of IR light, thus only the green color is affected.
I'd just cover the sensor for the LED's when you watch TV.

Nah, that would be a too simple solution, grj. We gotta come up with an engineered complex solution here!!
Of course, what in the world was I thinking!
Well ,To test Leo's theory about the ir light bounceing off the tv ,i put the lights on & i pointed the tv remote right at the controller for the led lights ,now if the signal was bounceing off of the tv & affecting the led lights ,then when i pointed the tv remote right at the controler then it should have had an affect on the lights ,but it did not do anything at all ,so thats not what is happening ,there is one thing i forgot to mention that a day or two ago my wife was watching tv in the kitchen with the led lights on when all of a sudden the lights went to full brightness without her even touching any remote ,so that ,plus the test i did today tells me that the controller is probably going bad ,i have changed the controller & so far everything seems to be ok ,i will know more as the day goes on as i am leaving the lights on for awhile .
Just a quick note ,it has been a couple of days since i changed the controler & all is well ,that is what the problem was .
