Arguably I am the most inexperienced person here.  I grew up on my Dad's trains from his youth and now although older but still love them.  I am attempting to be true to the Lionel trains I spent so much of my youth, (postwar, 1940/50 era).  Much to my wife’s dismay, I just purchased the one engine I could never afford as a kid-  the 1950 773 Hudson.  (cue the music from  Amos and Andy and any number of 1940/50 radio programs)

In any event, I am working to build a rather large layout (10'x20') layout and would love to know where I could get a template for original 0 and 072 track.  I am probably not looking in the right place, so any help would be appreciated. My other alternative is to replicate the 1957 layout in an expanded footprint.

Thank you

I have/had exactly what you are looking for. I used it on occasion, but never really liked it. once the computer track programs came out, i put it away somewhere, never to be used again. I haven't seen them for sale aywhere, either.

The computer programs are just so much better to use--- there are at least 4 programs i've used/tried in the past: Atlas's Right Track software(no longer available), Winrail (the parent of Right Track), Xtrak Cad, Anyrail, and the one I use now: RR-Track. For me, it's the best program out there.

Each program has it's supporters and detractors. you would have to read up on them, try the free versions(if they exist-- like Anyrail's), and see which one you like.

I just did a google search for the track template-- it's been discontinued, and is no longer available for purchase.

guess if one of us has one that is not "lost in space" they can send it to you if you insist on going old tech.

hope this helps--

Glad to see you up and running! I don't have my dad's lionel equipment-- my sister does. I did however manage to find most of what we grew up with in the secondary marketplace. So I have 2 layouts-- one a Lionel PW homage to my dad, the other is all modern equipment--  mostly MTH engines androlling stock. No modern Lionel engines, just rolling stock. enjoy the hobby!
