With the terrain style of the layout, a simple earthen bumper -- i.e., a pile of dirt -- would probably be the best as Mark mentioned above. Just layer it on over the track and saturate it with a 2-parts white glue/1-part water solution as you go. It should be about 3/4" to 1" high from the ground and will work fine.

Nick's build above is a great idea, too and looks like something that would have been built on-site. The stuff I've seen in more isolated areas is usually made from ties or a mound of earth (or theoretically a pile of rocks) .

Naaaaah...I'll just wait until Atlas O has new stock and buy a couple of their scale bumpers.

Yeah, that's what I'll do.

In the meantime, I'll just drive a nail between the rails at the ends of my spurs!

BAD ORDER  [no highballing in the yards...]

Here are some scale track bumpers that are right near my house.  Southern Pacific had a spur that looped around a warehouse district where they had customers. The track has long been torn out but the bumpers are still there.  Generally these are the type of bumpers the SP used.

Here is the Scaletrax bumper that I use.
