I am building a layout based on Ken's Lionel Train table design. I have the table and track layout done and am working on the wiring. I have a Z1000 brick and controller for power. My question is do I really need the controller or can I power the track and accessories directly from the 18 & 14 volt outputs from the brick? My next question is would it be beneficial to setup power blocks and insulated rails for some automation, and if so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated? I plan to setup the control panel with an iPad for train control since this will be operated by my grandson who is quite proficient with the Amazon tablet version of the iPad and I want him to be able to use the voice control as well. The rest of the control panel will be the switches and operating accessories. Does anyone have any suggestions for adding a parental speed control when using the Remote and/or the iPad App? I personally think the would be a helpful feature to keep the trains on the rails and not flying off into the sheetrock or windows.
