Does anyone have any suggestions for a cost effective curtain for to hide lower portion of my train table?  I don’t want to spend a bunch on them, because I am going to be redoing my tables in a few years.  My current tables were built 20 years ago when I was just getting into the hobby, so they’re over built simple rectangle tables made from plywood.

Our skirting around the Christmas 'metropolis' display that once occupied the entire living room was made using cheap non-fitted twin bed sheets...thrift shop sale bin.  Wife cut the sheets in half lengthwise, seamed the cut edge at the appropriate width (table height) on the portable Singer.

The display was on folding tables with a base layer of 2" thick white beaded foam.  So the skirt panels were simply attached to the edge of the foam using decorative pushpins, gathering as they were attached....

For skirting it was a fast, inexpensive solution.

FWIW.

Here's an idea. My wife works for her cousin who owns a linen business. Basically, they provide all the tablecloths and such for fancy weddings and dinners. So my table skirting is all retired tablecloths free for the taking. She also supplied skirting for all the modules in our Modular Train group. That's about 88 running feet of table skirting. Of course you'd need someone to cut and sew it but you won't find a better quality of material out there. No guarantees a local company would give it to you but it's worth a shot.

I have used tablecloth skirting on my portable layout, Christmas layout and our club layouts.  Good quality polyester fabric is about $1 a foot, and usually comes in a few sizes, 14', 17' 21'.

They also have cheap plastic versions but I would stay away from them!

If your layout is at 29", no cutting required, just stick on the supplied Velcro strip and then apply the skirting.  Easy to "rip off" to get access, then put it back.  I like the look of the dark green!
