Now that I got everyone's attention....here is my unbelievable news. I purchased a new DCS Wi-Fi interface unit and I read the directions and read the MTH directions online. I first followed the online website directions and upgraded the firmware. I then followed both the written on online instructions and......everything works just as it should. I thought I would write something good about this little device and how everything worked soo well.

Now I am using an old TIU that I run my Standard Gauge on upstairs and I did already do the 5.0 update months ago so I was ready. I do have some thoughts on this.

My old DB9 to USB adaptor cable which Windows10 deemed not working due to software changes on the computer works perfect to link the TIU to the Wi-Fi. This was the older RadioShack unit that worked just fine until the Windows updates came out so if someone has one of these you may not have to purchase a new adaptor cable. The Android and iOS software works great and for $5 each was worth it. Now I am hoping for MTH to come out soon with the version that controls track power since I sometimes run conventional units on the upstairs layout. Both programs respond well and I like the graphics.

Next will be taking this Wi-Fi with me to a show when Steve Eastman runs his Standard Gauge to see how well it runs. Should be a good talking tool to recruit members for our clubs.

I agree with Barry!  I did the exact same wifi upgrade on my layout a couple of months ago.  After packing, hooking it up, and upgrading...it all worked!  Being an old fart, heck I remember when the first microwave ovens came out.  I remember when we got a push button phone!  I agree with you Jeff, I find it unbelievable as well.  Technology is amazing.

Have a question for ya. I want to get this. Just bought a new mth 3.0 mp gp30 and let me say I really love it. I have an older mth bn 2.0 from years ago liked it ok. Then along came lionel legacy and so the story goes. Lionel took over my engine roster. Lately though the prices mth have on most of there engines is hard to beat compared to lionel. So I have been wanting some. The new gp3.0 sounds are so much better than my bn geep 2.0 sounds. I just love it. So lets just say mth you have rekindled my love for you and will be buying more engines. Sorry enough said already here is my question.

When using the remote changing the order of the softkey stuff like forward whistle, extended start up,engine sounds,is tedious and can be a pita. The new app makes these a snap to use it appears can these be moved in the app and then when you use the remote they show up changed on the remote as well? If not oh well no big deal, but I was just wondering. I Think I may like the app as I have played with it on my phone. I dont have the wifi box yet. Thats next on the list. Still like the feel of the remote to operate the engines though. The wifi would just give me more remotes for visitors.

Sorry, but the app won't change the order of softkeys on the remote.  Ifg ytou have multiple remotes, do be aware you need only get one remote all set the way you want it and clone other remotes.  Saving the data in a remote to your computer, in addition to enabling cloning, means that if you ever do a remote reset, you won't have to reenter data.

I agree with you on preferring the remote if I want to run trains, rather than play with gadgets.  Having discussed this off-line with another forumite on several occasions, I can safely say that this is a matter upon which reasonable (and unreasonable) men & women can, and do, differ.
