Picked this up recently, It is pristine with very few signs of corrosion, just very small blems. Runs perfect . light works. Note handle on control tower is broken as most of them are. also have the original transformer.

At one time, I had quite a bit of Unique Art. Only had one with a good handle on the power house. From what I can tell, the issue is the dissimilar metals used for the shaft arm and the housing it goes in. The shaft swells, probably zinc pest, and becomes frozen, then the handle gets snapped off.

Nice find.
you will find these sets pretty reasonably priced too. It is only when you venture into the Jewel T Circus Cars or the passenger sets (supposedly designed after Dorfan passenger cars) where Unique gets quite expensive. Benny the Brakeman cabeese are a good find as is the cattle car.

I would like to see some pictures of the actual transformer, not the controller that looks like a switch tower. The actual transformer looks similar to a Marx unit and it would be interesting to read the stamped lettering on it.

What I've always enjoyed about this set is that they are fairly accurate in proportion to the FP7 which Rock Island actually had in this paint scheme.
GG1.... Yes, that is the outstanding quality you first notice, the proportions and size of the units. I have yet to try running them, after reading of HHTrains find and what he wrote, I just may do so before long. That, and will have to be on the look out for more as I travel.

it's been a while since i've run mine, but from what i recall if you do decide to run your set, do not be concerned with the gear noise. both the clockwork and electric steamers have normally quite noisy mechanisms.
Very interesting. I had that exact set when I was three years old, and forgotten completely! Seeing that set triggered childhood memories.
