Not sure where to post this so here goes.  My layout is in the basement and I just hate seeing the ceiling so I would like to install a view block of some kind from the ceiling to draw the eye away from the ceiling to the layout.  What material is recommended for this and more importantly what gap should be left between the table top and the view block?  I did install a small section using black foam board but this stuff doesn't flex and I think I did not install it sufficiently low.  What have others done?

I 2nd clem k's suggestion, paint it black. Employ the Navy approach "If it doesn't move, paint it". You'll retain access to whatever is there for maintenance. The industrial look is acceptable. The only drawback, you'll have to brush it. You don't want the overspray now.
