Hi all,

Has anyone here converted the coupler on their VL Big Boy? Lionel sends a mount with screws but I don’t see where those screwed would go. Plus there are larger screws that fall into a similar location to where I assume these would go. These large screws would swallow the mount screws. I have recent models that are far easier to convert. I assume I will have to drill into the frame to convert? But not sure it’s even possible give then existing holes. Any help is greatly appreciated.IMG_2373

I don’t have a Big Boy. Can you show a picture of the mount. My only guess would be the 2 smaller unused holes for the mount if they line up. Which would have a normal Kadee buried under the chassis. Unless you used the longer shanked Kadee coupler that was meant more for passenger cars. They both feature the same box.
Before Kadee mounts were included. I use to make them out of brass stock. What looks like the screws to hold the shell on. Could easily hold a coupler mount with longer screws. Generally the Kadee has to be shimmed quite a bit anyways. So the offset T style bracket works out well.
