On my old layout I had a shelf where it was and I could just set the Cab2 in it to charge.  The new layout I plan to mostly run conventional or Lioncheif trains.

I was thinking of mounting under the layout, out of site and I can reach under there when I want to run my scale stuff.

Where do you mount  yours?

I'm designing a 16x36-inch slide-out shelf-tray at one end of my emerging L-shaped layout for mounting a power strip and most of the controls, including a Lionel Powerhouse, a Command Base, a Powermaster, and a recess for the CAB-1L. Small transformers for three trolley lines will be mounted there also. The shelf-tray must be stout -- in order to handle the weight of a Lionel 135-watt "brick" for the main line and three smaller MTH 75-watt "bricks" for the trolley lines.

I'll mount a series of terminal strips in a row at the "back side" of the shelf-tray for convenient access to the dressed-up wiring paths for troubleshoooting and possible future changes, allowing some slack in the wire harnesses to accommodate the movement of the shelf-tray.  Operating accessory controllers will be mounted around the perimeter of the layout on the fascia trim and near the controlled devices.

I considered using Lionel SC-2 devices to control all ten switches on the layout instead of traditional switch controllers. However, I'm not a techno-guy, and I like the look and feel of the classic era switch controllers, which I used on a home layout when I was kid in the 1940s-50s with AF trains. Each to his/her own preference ...

The slide-out shelf can be pulled out from under the platform for operations and then pushed back out of the way when not in use. I opted for this method because the walk-around space at the layout is "tight," and a traditional control console wouldn't fit.  Further, I prefer not to place control gear and exposed wire paths on the table tops.
