Work on the layout

Working on the pictures, it is our first layout a small 6x10

 oval with outer 060 and inner 048 fastrack. Should have some pictures sometime this week.  When we finish, then maybe we will start planning a larger layout. This layout we are working out the kinks of what we like and don't like. I have to admit though it has been a blast.

Good luck, the main thing is to have fun. Looking forward to some pictures.

Here are some pictures of our first layout. We have 060 curves on the outer and 048 curves on the inner oval. We used fastrack as you can see. It is 6' by 10', power mth z4000, DCS, just add the legacy base to control tmcc and legacy. We have a crossing gate, buildings (ameri-towne, mth, walthers, even made a passenger platform), made a lake scene in one corner, still have one blank corner, would like to find some exterior lighting for my car dealership. Cannot find lighting for that, if you know where please share. The son comes up with ideas, I have to come up with the money and then we try to get things done. Ran a train around the Christmas tree this year the old Texas Special from lionel handed down from grandpa to his grandson. Had to clean up a bit to get it to run , now runs like a champ. Hope 2014 we will be finished with this layout and start thinking about a larger layout.

Looks good and what's really great is the fact you're doing this with your son. That's a lifetime of memories.

Gk Trains thank you.  My son comes up the ideas then we try to implement them.  some ideas are great and some are out there, like his idea of placing the Daytona 500 race track on the layout. Maybe on the next layout we can squeeze it in lol

Well we (father son) finished our first layout together. Here are some pictures we have taken. It was a great deal of fun,good learning experience and my son is looking forward already to a larger layout. We squeezed a lot into a 6 x 10 layout. A small main street, a small yard, a beach on one end of the table, oil tank storage on the end of the table, some nice building from ameri towne, mth, korber even a passenger platform built from scratch. Now the ideas of a 10 year old are running wild. Cannot wait for the next one but, lets enjoy this layout for a while, while my wallet recovers. LOL  Thanks to everyone who had answered my questions about wiring, crossing gates, dcs, led lighting, that is why this is a great forum.

Nice job.  My grandson likes to turn out the lights and run the trains with just the layout lit.  It seems you do also.
