The reason is that the York meet is only a part of the entire TCA experience.  Research library (I admit I've only used it three or four times in 30 years, but I've had the positive experience of having donated lots of materials, and having been thanked by a person who needed the info in one of my donations) the Quarterly, the buy/sell ads, the Museum, the fraternal advantages and trust when discussing and trading ideas, etc.

Because if you still want to get into the member halls you still need to be a member after your "guest" period.
