Hello,

I am old guy who is getting back into model trains and am looking for possible layouts to fit a 10x8 area. Looking to run 2 trains. Currently have a Great Northern F3 diesel set with 5 cars. Want to add a freight train in future. I might possibly be able to use a 6x16ish area? Any ideas would be very helpful.

Thanks from MA

In my link below, there are photos of our now defunct 10' x 6.5' layout that had a double track mainline for two train running. It also had a few sidings for some simple switching action.

Note that you'll have to copy and paste the ENTIRE link into your browser window as only a small portion of it is an active, underlined hyperlink.

That was a beautifully done layout, Mike. Sorry to hear it's gone. Hopefully you'll be able to resurrect it soon.

Forgot to mention before I hit the Post button -- Mike's layout design would be perfect for an 8x10 or 6x16 configuration. What kind of track are you planning to use?

I'm glad you guys had a chance to look at the photos. We dismantled the layout few years ago as it had been roughed up in a couple of moves and didn't really fit the free space in our latest house.

The track was gargraves sectional. The inner loop was 031 curves and the outer was 042. The switches were all Gargraves as well. I don't recall the size but I would recommend Ross if doing it over as the reliability of my switches was spotty at best.

We've been running Fastrack on the floor along with a Christmas layout but will get back to a scale / realistic layout direction in the near future. Just need to get the basement finished before making the jump.
