Here I am back again asking the same question. If you pick a layout and it shows you what track you need to order how do I determine where each track goes just by looking at the layout? Example 6-12025 where does it go on the layout diagram?
If I'm not explaining it correctly I need help that's why I subscribed to this site.

Basically, yes. Some track plans show the part number on each piece of track, but most don't.
There may be a little trial and error (track laying is not necessarily an exact science) but you should be able to tell by just looking at the plan and eyeballing the size differences, which pieces go where.

I might also recommend that you find and download and learn how to use the SCARM track planning software. It is free to use up to either 50 or 100 pieces of track, more than enough to plan a small layout. It allows for the use of multiple manufacturers' track in one plan and will, upon command, identify each piece of track in the plan by part number as well as list all the pieces you need to complete your plan. I have attached a photo as an example.

There are "rulers" at the left side and top of the track plan. Copy a ruler onto a piece of paper (including the 1-inch divisions if necessary) and then use your paper ruler to measure the length of each section of track as shown on the diagram. You can do that for the straight pieces and (approximately) for the curved pieces too.
