The box coupler on a 2226 tender has a noticeable upturn on it's bracket to handle the higher couplers on premium 0 cars.

Here's the grossly over sized 2817 caboose behind the 226's, 2226W tender.   Seems there are 2 heights in 0 much like the 2 heights in classic standard gauge.  Engines and cars with electro-couplers might be the reason behind raised mountings to provide adequate clearance.

More to the point....if the MTH reproductions are faithful then I take it the cars in question are #613, 614 & 615.  They were cataloged by Lionel from 1933-37 with engines # 262E, 255E and 263E Blue Comet.

In 1938 the car numbers changed to # 2613, 2614 and 2615, pulled by the 0 engines 263E and 226E plus they carried over into 072 sets pulled by the 763E.  Finally they are discontinued after 1940.

Lionel sold the 600 series and the later 2600 series passenger cars, headed by a 225, 229, 238, 249, 262E or 265E locos. Now the tenders that were used were the 265T/W, 2225W, 2245T/W or 2265T/W. These tenders have the right coupler height to match with these passenger cars.
